Permabit Announces Expanded API Enabling Dedupe Everywhere

Deduplication Throughout the Enterprise IT Stack Made Possible With Albireo High Performance Data Optimization Software

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – September 12, 2011— Permabit Technology Corporation, the leader in the development and delivery of OEM embedded Data Optimized Storage, today announced an expanded Albireo API enabling “Dedupe Everywhere.” This latest evolution of Permabit’s award-winning Albireo software enables data to be deduped across the enterprise IT stack, throughout all storage tiers, and across networks. This includes the application, database and operating system layers and across all storage tiers including cloud and backup. Dedupe Everywhere means that data is in deduplicated form from the point of creation through to its final destination.

Permabit’s latest API extensions for Albireo result in a tremendous uplift in efficiency and ROI for OEM partners and their customers. Originally built to address all block, file, object and unified storage systems, Albireo has now expanded to uniquely integrate with any application, operating system or storage product, including new Solid State Drive (SSD) technology, within a vendor’s portfolio. Customers benefit greatly because data is optimized at the creation point and never rehydrated.  Because efficiency is maintained throughout the data lifecycle performance is optimized across the entire IT stack and data safety is maintained. That means compounding space savings with higher IOPS, and lower OPEX and CAPEX.

Albireo is the industry’s first and only OEM embedded data optimization solution delivering high performance data deduplication which was created for hardware and software OEMs who want to improve their competitive position and protect margin by enhancing their solutions with next generation data optimization.

The announcement of Permabit Dedupe Everywhere capabilities comes on the heels of independent validation of Albireo’s industry leading performance. In August 2011, Enterprise Strategy Group Lab (ESG) validated record breaking performance rates and scalability for Albireo. Permabit Albireo reached industry leading performance of over 400 GB/second in a test environment, surpassing by 2.5 times the previous 77 GB/sec performance number announced in October 2010. Additionally Albireo can scale to over 20 PB enabling deduplication and data growth well into the future.

Supporting Quotes:
“Dedupe everywhere is data dedupe on steroids. Albireo now interfaces with any storage product, operating system, database or application and eliminates duplicate data from the creation point to tiered primary storage and backup. Vendors and customers alike will see huge gains in storage performance, scalability and efficiency.”
~ Tom Cook, CEO, Permabit

“Deduplication, as long as it is done economically and efficiently, has to be about as close to a ‘no brainer’ as one can get in IT. With Albireo, Permabit has a supremely effective and flexible tool —one that can apply deduplication end-to-end and everywhere. It can better enable the Cloud….and can just as easily better enable the use and adoption of solid state storage.”
